Can one eat algae?

Algae are used to fertilize crops, feed animals, but some of them, like Porphyra, Rhodymenia and Laminaria , are consumed by people too. Eaten algae are firstly dried, then chopped or minced, so that at the end they could be used mainly as a resource for bread and sweets production. What is more, the food chain starting on algae is very interesting; microscopic marine creatures eat algae, then the latter are swallowed by prawns, oysters and fish which are eaten by a man at the end.
